Birds this morning @ Daniel Stowe Bot. Gdns., Belmont, NC

Birds of note (in addition to the more usual suspects) seen and heard
between 0900 and 1300:

Blackpoll Wblr
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Blue-winged Wblr
Indigo Bunting
Northern Parula
Orchard Oriole (imm. Male, singing)
Red-eyed Vireo
Scarlet Tanager
Summer Tanager
Swainson's Thrush

Field Sparrows by the dozens were singing from treetops, as were scores of
American Goldfinches, a dozen or so E. Meadowlarks, and lots of all of the
Mimids (N. Mockers, Gr. Catbirds, and Br. Thrashers) were very active and
vocal despite the constant light overcast and sometime drizzle. (The light
was pluperfect for flora-photography - soft, low-contrast, and shadowless.)

"Tis the season..." (la-la)

Also, a lone Common Loon was swimming on Davidson Lake (E. of I-77 nr mm30)
at around 1400 this afternoon.
