Historical NC Swallow-tailed Kite Reports - Clarification

The Sep 8 2001 Swallow-tailed Kite report from Fort Fisher, NC that I
reported was the "latest" in my May 4 e-mail to Carolinabirds was the latest
Avendex contains for the coastal area (counties adjacent to the immediate
coast). A few of he inland reports are later than Sep 8. An Oct 17, 1953
report from High Hampton, NC (in the mountains) is very interesting.

Someone asked me why I didn't include any information about SC
Swallow-tailed Kite reports in the e-mail. Since they breed in SC, they are
much easier to find and thus reported less. Many of the SC reports deal
with unusually high numbers of individuals, instead of just simple
occurrences. Quite remarkable were the 100 Swallow-tailed Kites reported at
the Santee River Delta on July 16, 1982.

There really are few birds that generate such "electricity" among birders as
Swallow-tailed Kite.
