Birders,
Spent several hours today looking around Lakes Norman and Wylie for any
possible storm-blown birds. The only candidate was a sleeping and somewhat tattered
LAUGHING GULL on a boat dock near the Lake Norman dam at 9:30 AM. A BROWN
PELICAN has been seen a couple of times near the Buster Boyd Bridge at Lake
Wylie (NC/SC 49) since June 28 but I could not locate it today. CLIFF SWALLOWS
were seen at several sites at both lakes, nesting under the Buster Boyd Bridge,
at Cowan's Ford Dam (Lake Norman), and Blythe Landing at Lake Norman. CEDAR
WAXWINGS were heard near Latta Plantation Park in northern Meck. County. A quick
check of Lake Don T. Howell (Cabarrus County) yielded only DOUBLE -CRESTED
CORMORANTS which summer on that reservoir.
Did anyone get a chance to check large lakes in the mountains of NC and the
upstate SC today ?
