About this time each year, we start getting phone calls and e-mails
about strange mutant birds with lots of missing feathers. This week a
"lizard-head" Northern Cardinal even showed up at Hilton Pond Center
for Piedmont Natural History.
This bird is apparently suffering from head mites, as described in
the 1-7 July 2003 installment of "This Week at Hilton Pond." To view
the current photo essay on this mite-infested bird, please visit
http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek030701.html .
As always, there's also are lists of new birds banded and the few
recaptures made during the period.
Happy Nature Watching!
