Re[2]: Fw: new name for Oldsquaw

Well, whatever we call them, looks like there are fewer and fewer of
     them to call ...

SEA DUCKS DECLINE: AP reports 8/3 that "scientists are warning that
dropping numbers of sea ducks could indicate more widespread
ecological decay." While fresh water "puddle ducks" are increasing,
sea ducks "which were once the most abundant waterfowl" are in
decline. Three species of scoters, three species of eiders, scaup,
goldeneyes, oldsquaws and harlequin ducks are affected, with declines
of the spectacled and Steller's eider so sharp that they have been
listed as threatened under the ESA. "Field researchers point to
habitat destruction, pollution and in some cases, excessive hunting,
     for the decline."

(sorry to add a downer to this lively discussion, but this just came
     into my mailbox).
