Dear BirdChat -
The listowners have been noticing a recent increase in the number of
messages being posted to BirdChat that are arriving as multiple part
messages. These messages arrive as both an ASCII message and as an
HTML message. While some mail readers have no problem sorting these
out, other mail readers have nervous breakdowns, and it also makes the
archives "messy".
BirdChat protocol requires messages to arrive in plain text (ASCII) only
with no attachments. PLEASE check your mail program settings.
Virtually all of these messages, of late, have been created using
Microsoft Outlook, and usually version 5 of this program. The default
setting for Outlook appears to be HTML. To change this:
Go to the menu bar and click on Tools
Click on Options
Find the tab that says Send
Part way down that page look for Mail Sending Formt
Check on Plain Text
We will continue to contact those members whose messages arrive in
multipart format to help them correct this, but if you would all check
your mail settings, especially if you have an upgraded version of Outlook
or a new computer, and make sure that your default is set to Plain Text we
would appreciate it!
Thank you for your cooperation and everyone have a fun Labor Day weekend
of birding!
Chuck Otte
