A good-to-great three hours at Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary and along the
lake's edge just wnw of the Sanctuary. Robins were swarming, good numbers
of Red-breasted Grosbeaks, the usual mess of catbirds, and a nice mix of
warblers (13 species). Best for me were Kentucky (first-year female) and
N. Waterthrush. Magnolias, Red-starts, Chestnut-sided in good numbers, and
6-8 Tennessees.
A flock of 150+ Chimney Swifts flitted over the lake early in the morning.
One Rough-winged Swallow perched for a few minutes. Rattling kingfishers
kept up a racket. A couple of Am. Coots and two Pied-billed Grebes
signaled what's to come. Even had some Brown-headed Nuthatches visit the
white pines in the Sanctuary.
Best of all, three vireos -- Philadelphia, Warbling and Yellow-throated
(3+, two of them singing). cheers
