More Surf Scoters on Lake Hickory

We had 8 imm. Surf Scoters at Dusty Ridge access on Lake Hickory this
afternoon. They were only 25 yards out, so viewing was great. When they
were first seen, they had their heads tucked under their wings. This made
them look alot like Ruddy Ducks, but once they lifted there heads it was
clear that they were scoters. If you see a raft of "Ruddy Ducks" study them
carefully to make sure they are not scoters! Also at Dusty Ridge there was
1 Common Loon (calling) and 2 Pied-billed Grebes. At Oxford access there
was 1 Common Loon, 1 Horned Grebe, 23 Ring-billed Gulls, and 2 Mallards. At
Lookout Shoals Lake there was 3 Red-breasted Mergansers, 5 Buffleheads, and
10 Pied-billed Grebes.
