Wake waterfowl

Waterfowl numbers are up this weekend all over the southern Wake County
area. The most exciting birds were at Greenview Pond (the area behind the
beaver dam that is unaffected by the construction). 2 adult TUNDRA SWANS
were present Saturday and Sunday. Most access to the pond is restricted by
private homes and construction, but one unoccupied lot on Lullwater Drive
offers a clear sightline to the rear pond. Also present were about 30
Green-winged Teal, Mallards, Gadwall, and the abundant Canada Goose.
Greenview is located off Blaney Franks road in southern Wake County.

The NCSU Dairy Pond had 27 Northern Shovelers, 10 Bufflehead, 3 Ring-necked
Ducks and a slew of Canada Geese.

West Lake Pond had 270 Ring-necked Ducks, 2 Gadwall, and 4 Canvasback on
Saturday.

Lake Wheeler (the northwest end above the causeway) had 121 Ruddy Ducks, 4
HOODED MERGANSERS, and 8 Mallards.

Things are looking good!

Have a great week,
