bluejays and eggshells

watching bluejays out the back this a.m. I noticed they were picking up egg
shells from the compost. I assume the female is taking them for the calcium.
Also yesterday on Carr Store Rd in Or. co. I saw 3 RT Hawks within one mile
of each other. One was eating a roadkill possum. Also saw an accipter
which was very large. Are Cooper"s more prevalent here in the winter (such
as it is)
