Lake Wheeler Road Area

Hi, I birded the Lake Wheeler Road area this morning along with Mike
McKeon, a birder whom I met at the NCSU farm pond. I didn't have tons
of time, but we hit the dairy farm pond, 1010 pond, Westlake pond (just
the upper pond), and Lake Wheeler from the Penny Road causeway. Nothing
exceptional, and except for the NCSU farm pond, numbers were pretty
small. It was a beautiful (if cold) morning nonetheless, and it felt
wonderful to finally get out for some birding, which I haven't been able
to do enough of lately. Saw:

Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Canada Goose
Mallard
Northern Shoveler
American Wigeon
Canvasback
Ring-necked Duck
Greater Scaup (none at the dairy farm pond, but found two drakes and a
couple of hens on Lake Wheeler)
Lesser Scaup
Bufflehead
Hooded Merganser
Ruddy Duck
Red-tailed Hawk
Killdeer
Common Snipe (at the side of the dairy farm pond, beautiful in the early
morning sunlight)
Ring-billed Gull
Rock Dove
Belted Kingfisher
Northern Flicker
American Crow
Tufted Titmouse
Ruby-crowned Kinglet
Eastern Bluebird
European Starling

Happy Birding!
