UNC's resident barred owls continue to sleep away the daytime hrs. in easy
view in their favorite holly trees just south and east of Pettigrew Hall
(sometimes together, sometimes in separate trees), but tonight after
watching them fly around a bit (after dusk) finally spied the female
checking out a hole in large oak(?) facing Smith Hall entrance (near a
lampost and walking path). It's a tree I haven't seen them use before (and
not sure she was satisfied with this particular hole) but hopefully means
they're at last preparing to breed.
