Re: Scissor-tailed Flycatchers

(I tried sending two messages earlier today at work. Neither has been
delivered. Guess the outgoing mail server has the weekend off. Anyway,
apologies for receiving duplicating messages. Who knows when you might get
them. I'll see if AOL can get the job done).

Anyway...

An interesting note. Scissor-tailed Flycatchers have nested in Laurens
County, South Carolina, at the Youngs Community Center. Heather Walker and I
observed this species there on 28 June, 1983. I believe that they had nested
there at least two years in a row. I don't know if they nested past 1983.

Laurens County, SC is not too far, as the crow flies, from southern Union
County, NC. Perhaps the birds are attracted to the remnant Piedmont Prairie
in those parts.
