Today, 7 July, Jack Fennell saw an adult Cooper's Hawk in his yard, near
Mill Creek community, Carteret County. The hawk took a Blue Jay. He had
seen evidence of bird kills in his yard for several days, and thought a hawk
had been responsible. Perhaps Coopers are nesting in his vicinity.
Jack saw a Cooper's Hawk in his yard last summer as well, on 30 June. That
bird took a nestling Purple Martin out of a nest box.
