White Ibis at Lake Hartwell



Yesterday (17 August 2000) Caroline Eastman and I did a little birding along
the Tugaloo River in Oconee County, SC, i.e. the extreme upper end of Lake
Hartwell.  There are impressive mudflats visible from River Road north of US
123.  From either Westminster, SC or Toccoa, GA take US 123 to the GA-SC
border.  Just east of the bridge River Road follows the SC shore northwest
to Road 88.  There are several spots in this 3 mile stretch where you can
overlook the mudflats.

We found an impressive flock of herons and egrets, accompanied by one adult
White Ibis.
