Howdy,
I love the connections birders have with each other!
Yesterday I smiled after reading Joshua and Charles' emails about
Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, FL. I used to live within 10 miles of
the wetlands. Before it officially became Wakodahatchee, I remember going in,
concerned we'd be locked in if someone closed the gate on us! That's were Joe
and I saw our lifer Short-eared Owl. Yup, it's a great place to get close for
great looks and pictures of Purple Gallinule, Sora, etc.
After enjoying the nesting activities of Carolina Wrens early in the summer
and House Wrens later, it sure is quiet around the house. Wierd how the birds
fledge and fly somewhere else, just when you've gotten to know them and think
they're your birds!
Anyone still seeing catbirds in their yards? I haven't seen or heard ours in
2 weeks now. Must have left a lot earlier this year.
A Cooper's Hawk has been hanging out in the back yard. Think that's one
reason why there hasn't been as much activity at the feeders.
I'm ready for fall migration!! Happy birding!
