Re: Marked Hummers
JACK . . .
Nancy Newfield of Louisiana is using white forehead dots on hummers;
she's at <colibri@gs.verio.net>. I believe Susan Campbell in North
Carolina also has been using this system.
Some hummers at this time of year are visiting sapsucker wells and
getting white sap and pollen deposits on their bills and
foreheads--not to be confused with the color-marking.
My color-marked birds from Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural
History near York SC all are marked with green dye that forms a
necklace on the upper breast or throat. A picture is at
http://www.rubythroat.org/HummerMarkingMain.html .
Best wishes,
BILL
