Leucistic Redstart

This morning while birding over in the Fort Raleigh area of Roanoke Island,
I spotted a leucistic American Redstart. The bird was very striking with an
off-white (or very pale gray) head and back. The (normally dark green) wings
were a very pale primrose yellow as were the normally green feathers in the
tail. The normally yellow or orange tail feathers were in this case
off-white. The underparts of the bird were totally white except for a small
amount of pale yellow across the breast. The only dark part of the bird was
the eye. Because of the whitish face, the eye really stood out prominently
(as in a Wilson's or Chestnut-sided Warbler). The band on the end of the
tail which is normally very dark was in this case a medium green. This bird
was foraging with 2 other Redstarts, 3 Northern Parulas, and a
Chestnut-sided Warbler.
