My fishing partner and I spent most of yesterday fishing on the sound
behind Ocean Isle. We had beautiful weather, caught some fish, and
saw a number of birds. Before leaving, we checked the beach on the
ocean side and found a few additional birds. Here's the list for the
day:
brown pelicans
turkey vultures
laughing gulls
herring gull (immature) - ocean side
ring-billed gulls - ocean side
d-c cormorants
great egrets
great blue herons
tricolored herons
sanderling - ocean side
kingfisher
tree swallows
boat-tailed grackles
fish crows
I saw one tern aloft, probably a Forster's but I didn't get a good
enough look for a positive id.
