Saturday 21 October 2000, I had a brief look at an usual hummingbird at my
feeders, Eastwood, jaems Is, SC.
I was able to look at the bird for two 1/2 min time periods thru my
bedroom window as it fed at our hummingbird feeder in our yard. I noticed a
immature hummer with a light front. What I was able to see clearly was that
the throat was white with dark streaks and there there was an oval gorget at
the base of base of the throat. In good light I was able to see that gorget
color was a ROSE red. There was no rose color on the crown. The back seemed
to be green. I have not seen the bird after these two brief views and I have
not seen the bird again. Everything I saw on the bird was consistent with it
being a female Anna's Hummingbird but I am not sure. many ideas.
