Fl Winter birding

Hi Carolina Birders,
Terry inquired about winter birding in Florida. I bird Merritt Island NWR
every year around 1/1. It can be better than Ding Darling and ample
opportunity for hiking. Visit the headquarters to see what has been seen
and where in the refuge. Also I have seen Manatees in the Titusville
Municipal Yacht Harbor in the winter. Another good place for Manatees in
the winter is the Ft. Pierce Municipal Yacht harbor. It is next to a power
plant which discharges warm water. If you want to bird the panhandle, St.
Marks NWR has excellent winter birding. It is south of Tallahassee on the
gulf. Hope this e-mail is not out of line for carolinabirds. Others may be
interested in the same subject.
Good birding,
Jim Ward
