Good Evening!
The Green-breasted Mango gave quite a show through
most of the morning until my time of departure at 11:30 am today. The
National Geographic 3rd edition does little justice to the bird. A much better
representation is Kaufman's Birds of North America (page 219). Although viewing
was under cloudy conditions, there were times where a brilliant
burst of rufous/ brick red would emanate from the tail leading to oohs and
aahs from the approximate 25 people scrutinizing the bird. Make sure
you sign and then scan the guest book to get a sense of the magnitude this
bird's presence is having around the country.
Thanks Eric for the tips on using a digital camera
through a spotting scope. A little digging through my manual allowed me to
locate that flower symbol!
Thank God for allowing that bird to stick around
through this 4 day holiday and for Lori Turner's hospitality!
Good Mangoing,
Joe Harris
