A pair of Great-horned Owls last night hooted away in the woods outside my
house -- one noticeably lower-pitched than the other. I first heard the pair
last Wednesday afternoon. Earlier in the fall I heard and saw only one bird,
but I thought it might be looking for a mate. I'm pretty thrilled. Up till
now, the moist woods where I live have been Barred Owl country -- this is
something quite new (for me).
