My wife found a deceased northern waterthrush on the campus of
Columbia College yesterday morning. It was probably killed by
flying into the reflective glass. She brought it home so the children
could give it a decent burial and we examined the bird very closely.
It was very yellow and even had the light rust colored flecking on
the throat so it was not a Louisiana. As birders we were not only
saddened by its death but by the fact that we had never seen a
northern waterthrush. Anyway, this is the fourth year in a row we
have found dead warblers next to academic buildings with reflective
glass in Columbia. Lewis Burke.
