The Migration Day on 12 May was enjoyable, but might actually be called (in
regard to landbirds) a Non-Migration Day. 12 May is definitely past peak
for migration. If I remember correctly, only one non-resident warbler was
seen--Yellow Warbler (redstarts seen may have been residents, or may have
been migrants)
The weather was not the best--quite windy and very warm.
About 150 species were tallied. Some of the highlights were:
2 Mississippi Kites--1 along the upper White Oak River, 1 in Camp Lejeune
military reservation
1 Broad-winged Hawk--a couple of miles N of Swansboro
1 Arctic Tern at New River Inlet (maybe someone will send in some details on
this)
1 Parasitic Jaeger off Onslow Beach
2 Horned Larks were found in extreme eastern Onslow County, near Stella
Eurasian Collared-Doves were found at Sneads Ferry, as usual. However, one
a couple of miles N of Swansboro was a new site.
