We ran the Mt. Mitchell Breeding Bird Survey this morning and our most
numerous species was Red Crossbill!!! We had 22 of them between Hwy.
128(the road that goes up to Mt. Mitchell SP) and Balsam Gap on the Blue
Ridge Parkway. The spruces and firs are loaded with cones, so there should
be alot of Crossbills in the Black Mountains area through this winter!
