An American Woodcock hit a window of a building in which my daughter Alex
works in the Ballantine complex, So. Charlotte, nr I-85 and Johnston Rd on
Thursday, July 5, 2001. It was killed instantly, picked up and examined by
my daughter who froze the carcass and brought it to me for examination
yesterday. It was given an honorable burial in our back yard.
Also, we observed Yellow-billed Cuckoos and Acadian Flycatchers amonf the
more usual suspects at Anne Springs Close Greenway on the Fourth, last week.
Scads of E. Bluebirds (clouds of upwards of fifty birds - mostly juveniles -
were feasting on the ubiquitous June beetles there.
FYI... My daughters and I have put together a web site of the best of many
photos we have made of leps et al. observed this Spring and Summer of 2001,
so far. Observations and photos made in the Charlotte vicinity - from Lake
Norman, NC, to Coddle Creek Reservoir nr Davidson-Concord, to Anne Springs
Close Greenway nr Fort Mill, SC.
