Hi Carolinabirders,
Today from 9 AM to 2 PM Gary Phillips and I birded at Huntington Beach
S.P., Murrells Inlet, Georgetown County, SC. We identified 57 species in
birding the jetty pond, jetty, remnant road west of the jetty pond,
Kerrigan Trail and overlook of Mullet Pond and most of the carriage path.
Everyday seems to bring more migrant shorebirds and a few local movers
among the passerines. The weather was mild with comfortable temps in the
80's. We were at the jetty pond at high tide and the really brisk
northerly winds pushed water up onto the sandflat and 200 yards south of
its normal boundaries into the vegetative area. In late July, August and
September these conditions enable large numbers of shorebirds to feed in
the vegetative area. Curiously, this did not happen today.
