Re: nesting Mississippi Kites

In NC, kites nest north to Roanoke Rapids. They are present all along
the Roanoke River from RR and Weldon downstream to close to Williamston.
The RR nesting pair likely feeds over the Roanoke River (on dragonflies
and cicadas). The species now seems to be present along almost all of
the brownwater rivers in the Coastal Plain -- Roanoke, a few on the Tar
(such as Fishing Creek), Neuse, Cape Fear (a few), and the Pee Dee in s.
NC and into SC. Blackwater rivers such as the Lumber, Waccamaw,
Northeast Cape Fear, etc., seem to be devoid of kites. Even the Meherrin
system in VA has a population of kites. One would think that the nesting
pair in Laurinburg would feed around the Lumber River, but there don't
seem to be sightings from that river.
