Birders,
I stopped by Lake Don T. Howell yesterday PM and today 8-19 from 3:30 PM to
4:30 PM. The marbled godwit remains present on the east shore , usually
visible from Shimpock Rd. Reported white-rumped sandpipers and Baird's
sandpipers were not seen. My count today :
MARBLED GODWIT 1
semipalmated plover 1
lesser yellowlegs 4
solitary sandpiper 1
pectoral sandpiper 26
least sandpiper 14
semipalmated sandpiper 3
short-billed dowitcher 1
snowy egret 1
little blue heron 3
great egret 6
The godwit was first seen on the 17th of August by Tom Lorenzin. The only
other marbled godwit I have seen inland in the state was in Mecklenburg
County in 1993, on the 17th of August.
