Lake Crabtree 9/8-9/9

Saturday was fairly productive at Lake Crabtree County Park in Wake County,
NC. Nothing rare, but good numbers of birds moving through including a
strong push of Pine Warblers, Red-eyed Vireos and Northern Parulas. No
snakes on Saturday :-)

Magnolia Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Black & White Warbler
Northern Parula
American Redstart
Hooded Warbler
Pine Warbler
Ovenbird
Common Yellowthroat
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Summer Tanager
Baltimore Oriole
E. Wood Pewee
Blue-hedaed Vireo
White-eyed Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo

I was really hoping for a Blue-winged Warbler, which I found several of at
this time last year, but none were to be seen.

Sunday morning's activities were cut short by rain and low clouds. While
cooking up some pasta for lunch I looked out the kitchen window and saw a
Blue-winged Warbler in the back yard! Someone is watching out for me.

Sunday afternoon at Crabtree was slower than Saturday with fewer birds, but
more snakes.

Black & White Warbler
Pine Warbler
Northern Parula
American Redstart
Red-eyed Vireo
Summer Tanager

4' Black Rat Snake
small arboreal snake, probably young Black Rat

The small snake-in-a-tree was quite entertaining in that most of the birds
nearby stopped by to investigate/scold the reptile. By keeping our bins on
the snake we saw all of the aforementioned with the exception of the Pine
and tanager come in for a close look. At one point we had the snake, a
Red-eyed Vireo, a Black & White Warbler, and a Northern Parula in sight at
the same time.

Have a great week!
