I recently encountered the first red-headed woodpecker I have ever seen in
Watauga Cnty. The immature bird was seen close to Rich Mtn. Gap, well
above 4000ft of elevation. At the same spot I saw a downy and a flicker to
make it quite a good woodpecker morning; also had a rose breasted grosbeak
and lots of warbler activity.
