I took the Shepherd Nature Trail loop at lunchtime today and found a few
things. (Directions: http://www.duke.edu/~cwcook/tbg/dukeforestjp.html)
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1 (my first of the fall)
Blue-headed Vireo - 1
Red-eyed Vireo - 2
Catbird - 6
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH - 2 (my first of the year). Had a leisurely look at one
as it gave an interesting call note similar to its "wheer!" nocturnal call.
Wood Thrush - 1
Magnolia Warbler - 6
American Redstart - 2
Hooded Warbler - 2
White-throated Sparrow - 1 (my first of the fall)
Butterflies:
HARVESTER - 1
Red-banded Hairstreak - 1
E Tailed-Blue - 3
anglewing sp. - 1
Red Admiral - 3
And a couple of Yellow-Jackets found me, which I was considerably less happy
about!
