On Sunday afternoon I watched one White-throated Sparrow cleaning up after
the Cardinals under my sunflower seed feeder. This is was earliest I've
seen them at my home.

Jonathan Steere, in N. Durham reported to me seeing Wh-Thrtd.Sparrows in
his
yard this past weekend, RC Kinglets the week before, and RB Nuthatches the
week before that -- he too speculated that food shortages up north from a
dry summer were driving birds south early and to anticipate a good birding
winter.
