Coddle Creek, aka Don T. Howell

Folks "in the know",

Is any effort underway to persuade the political/bureaucratic powers that be
to make the reservoir area more "birder friendly"? I have heard that there
was a stipulation that the area would be managed as a conservation area
provided that no alterations (public viewing areas, park facilities and the
like) would occur. As this is county-owned and therefore public land, it
would appear that a more park-like management philosophy would be
legitimate. As things currently are, one has to park on the side of the road
and risk life and limb to get a glimpse of what's on the water. A viewing
area on both the north (Hwy 136) and south end (Hwy 73)of the reservoir
would be very helpful to those of us (a growing number) that frequent the
area to bird. Judy, Taylor, anyone?
