Jaeger sp. at Waites Island, SC

C'birders,

I'm passing along a second-hand report from some visiting birders.

Seen today, Sunday 23 December from Waites Island, SC, one jaeger, not
long-tailed. Waites is at the northeast corner of SC, just west of Sunset
Beach, NC.

Some points mentioned were:

Dark bird chasing terns off the beach. While the observers watched, the
jaeger did convince at least one tern to drop a fish, which the jaeger
then caught in the air. "Deltoid" tail (i.e. longest in center), but no
obvious tail streamers. The bird appeared all dark in pretty good views.

The observers are experienced birders from the west coast, and have seen
jaegers before.
