Merry Christmas All-
It has indeed been a very merry time here in NC from the hummingbird
perspective. The Hummer Santa (as Gary Phillips would say) has been *very*
good to us. First a Broad-billed this fall and then more recently
Broad-tailed and multiple Calliopes. This is in addition to a nice bunch of
Rufous at feeders across the state. It just keeps getting better and better
and better...
Amazingly I actually banded two Calliopes here in the central part of NC
this week: one Saturday and then one Sunday! The one I banded Saturday
(hatch year male) is in a confidential location and not regular at the
feeder. The hummer I banded yesterday is another young male--absolutely
gorgeous with one magenta gorget feather flaring out already-- at a feeder
in Winston Salem (veteran winter hummer feeders and HBSG supporters, the
Williams's: Charles and Ann; at 2652 Forest Dr). YES! Two Calliopes
banded in NC in two days!!
What next in 2002?
Warmest wishes,
Susan Campbell
