Saturday Morning at Falls Lake

Hi folks

Spent Saturday morning at the usual Falls Lake areas of Olive Grove
Peninsula, Cheek Rd causeway, and Panther Creek Point.

Shorebirds were not widespread but numbers were up. Olive Grove had very few
birds but Panther Creek point had three large flocks, each very nervous and
flighty. Total numbers for the morning included:

Semipalmated Plover - 5
Kildeer - 75
Greater Yellowlegs - 26
Lesser Yellowlegs - 212
Spotted Sandpiper - 4
Sanderling - 3
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 3
Least Sandpiper - 63
White-rumped Sandpiper- 4
Pectoral Sandpiper - 92
Stilt Sandpiper - 37

There was also one Ring-billed Gull and one Caspian Tern.

Very exciting were TWO Peregrine Falcons. Had an immature causing mass
confusion with the Yellowlegs, etc. flocks at Panther Creek Point and an
adult near the powerline on the way out to Olive Grove Peninsula.

Also had the season's first Yellow-rumped Warbler and American Pipit.

Was a very nice day with the clouds and wind keeping it cool.

Later, Ricky
