Mystery Kingbird

This past week-end Gene Howe, myself, and others
viewed a kingbird that we first thought was a
Thick-billed Kingbird. With more thorough
identification checks, it was concluded that the bird
was definitely not a Thick-billed Kingbird, but the
question exists between a juvenile Gray and a
Loggerhead Kingbird.

Dr. Maurice Barnhill has posted the photos of the
bird:

Per a suggestion by Sam Cooper (member of NC Rare Bird
Committee), and others, I would appreciate comments
from Carolina Birds and others who are knowledgeable
with the two kingbird species and their different
plumages as to the identity of this bird.

Thank you,

Greg Massey
