Ravens

Yesterday at Caesar's Head a Raven flew directly overhead at about 200 ft.
above the hawk watch site. The bird showed some "brownish" coloration on the
primaries when backlighted, and at no time showed the wedge shaped tail. The
tail was rounded when gliding and fan shaped when soaring.
In many years of fascination with "couvus corax" I have never seen this and
have not been able to find such a description in the literature.
Can anyone explain?
