You might try searching the website of the Myrtle Beach Sun News at
http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/sunnews/

I'm not sure whether the editorials are archived, but a quick search of news
articles mentioning "birds" turned up nothing that looked alarming  --  by
far, the most common bird mentioned was Turkey!
