Hilton Pond 12/08/02 (Bird Ticks)

A Dark-eyed Junco and a Blue Jay we banded this week at Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History had something in common: each had a tick attached near its eye.

For photos of these ectoparsites and a discussion of their impact on birds, visit the 8-14 December 2002 installment of "This Week at Hilton Pond" by clicking on http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek021208.html .

As always, there's a list of the week's banded birds--plus a whole slew of recaptures--and a mug shot of one of our favorites: the Brown-headed Nuthatch.

Please forward this message to others who are interested in nature and birds. They can get a free weekly reminder for "This Week at Hilton Pond" by sending a blank e-mail to mailto:info@hiltonpond.org with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.
