Cave Swallows & Long-tailed Duck

Hey Carolinabirders,

Cave Swallows were seen around noon today at Huntington Beach State Park
(HBSP). Four were seen for over an hour foraging above a small patch of
marsh on the southwest corner of Mullet Pond. Up to a dozen Tree Swallows
were seen as well foraging over all parts of the pond, but the Caves
remained in that one isolated section.

An adult female Long-tailed Duck was seen at the jetty earlier in the day.
This bird was 3/4 of the way to the east end of the jetty just off the rocks
on the Garden City side (north side) of the jetty. (This could well be the
same bird that Phil Turner found on the Christmas Bird Count on 12/30 at
Captain Dick's Marina.) The bird was diving with a female Black Scoter for
thirty minutes or so but was last seen in the company of two male
Red-breasted Mergansers.

The only swans that I could find at HBSP today were two Mutes that appeared
to be deeply in love.

Good Birding!
