Yesterday (20 Jan 2003) I finally got the season's first Purple
Finch--an after-second male with raspberry plumage--here at Hilton
Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History near York SC.
He was re-trapped this morning along with a brown Purple Finch of
unknown sex that, based on fault bars in its tail feathers, is
apparently a second-year bird.
Happy Nature Watching,
BILL
