Johnston Mill Reserve/ loons...?

had previously only seen Johnston Mill Nature Reserve in winter bareness,
but returned today with it in full green lushness and was impressed (also learned
Chapel Hill Bird Club visited for first time last weekend). Best bird was close look at La. W.thrush,
though better warblers may have been hidden high in thick canopies. Also at one point heard odd waterfowl-like call in distance, one hiking couple thought sounded like loons! and with the recent
reports of such it did sound loon-ish if they would call on the wing (at midday no less) when passing through.

For anyone not familiar with this local gem one entrance is about a mi. east of NC86
on Mt. Sinai Rd. (near Orange/Durham County line), and other entrance toward end of
Turkey Farm Rd.(off Whitfield Rd.), with actual parking lots for use, unlike most nearby
Duke Forest areas. (The Reserve trail follows New Hope Creek).
