Yellow-crowned Night Herons +

Hi,
With the road to South Point closed for about two months Susse Wright & I ,
hoping for improved birding, decided to walk the area on Tuesday morning.
The area is a Renaissance!

Along the three mile walk-up the road and on the road jetting to the right
at about the half way point we saw:
12 + Tricolor Herons
1 Great Blue Heron
8-10 Great Egrets
0 Snowy Egrets
100+ White Ibis (Juv to Adult at 2-1 ratio)
12-15 Little Blue Herons
10 Cattle Egrets (missing from Hwy 12 this year)
and at least
15 Yellow Crowned Night Herons.

We also came across a group of willets, obviously guarding young, vocalizing
and "buzzing" us. Skimmers were skimming the shallow ditches. Several
Tricoloreds vocalized angrily as we walked through a marsh to the Sound.
Young in the area? We headed back to reduce the stress.

We went out to the beach and found a Park Service person marking a new
turtle nest. Though we wanted to check the nesting area on foot,(much drive
through the nesting area on weekends with serious damage this past weekend)
I had to leave to go home to feed baby bird in wildlife rehab.

On both Monday and Tuesday there has been a YCNH in my yard. It seems to
have "staked out the place" as a personal feeding sight for fiddler crabs.
