FW: western NC ducks

Len, it's a domestic Duck... The following is a list of Domestic Ducks at
Lake Tomahawk:

Tufted Duck
Cinnamon Teal
Hooded Merganser
Wood Duck
Ruddy Duck
Mallard (Duckus Domesticus!)
and some sort of Asiatic Duck

I don't know about the Green Wing Teal... We've had a few over the winter
but I think they've left. Any unusual ducks this time of year I would be
very suspect of. There's a guy who lives next to the lake that pays to have
exotic ducks brought in. there's a board with pictures of the ducks that
have been introduced by the playground, although it hasn't been updated in
some time. There's some sort of disease that's been killing the ducks
there. There used to be Redheads and more Mergansers.

There are several good birds that are often on the little island. You
should see Orchard and Baltimore Oriole, Green Heron, Eastern Kingbird, and
lots of swallows.

A summer visitor to the area wonders if she could possibly have seen a wild
Tufted Duck at Tomahawk Lake in Black Mountain, east of Asheville. I told
her not likely but she wanted local expert opinion. Is there anyone out
that way who is willing to get in touch with Donna McLean at her cell phone
(970-310-9799) to tell her what she might have seen. She also told me
about a Green-winged Teal she thought she observed there -- but my
suggestion that these were not wild ducks fell on deaf ears.
