We got some interesting reports this week from the federal Bird
Banding Lab, documenting that three finches banded at Hilton Pond
Center for Piedmont Natural History were encountered elsewhere, and
one of those was far away.
The encounters--including one by Betty O'Leary of the Carolina Raptor
Center--are described under the 15-21 July 2003 installment of "This
Week at Hilton Pond." To view the photo essay, please go to

As always, there is a tally of all birds banded during the period,
plus a list of all the local returns of banded birds, including
Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. There's also a brief account of a recent
trip to Hilton Pond by members of the Carolina Butterfly Society.
Happy Nature Watching!
