At Fearrington Village (off 15-50, Chatham Cty.) the other night I stepped
onto the porch of ÒDovecote Home and Garden ShopÓ to escape rain and there
on porch canopy was a nest and 4 fledgling barn swallows on ledge 3 ft.
above my head; very cute, wouldÕve made good photo or video essay if someone
had followed them from initial nesting to this point. Then in entrance to
the Ôbig barnÕ on premises another 4-5 fledglings with 1-2 adults were
calmly hanging out on electrical cord again 3 ft. above me(empty nest on
rafter farther down). No doubt many others around on site if I just chanced
on these 2 groups without even looking, and apparently very accustomed to
human traffic.
