sarajon2: West Nile Virus and Raptors

Dear Carolinabirders,
Are raptors, specifically Great Horned Owls, subject to West Nile
Virus? My brother found a dead Great Horned Owl on his farm in Bryn
Athyn, Pennsylvania in deep woods. The bird was not shot and did not have
a broken neck. The local raptor rehabilitator says that the young male,
born in February, did die from West Nile Virus. The local watershed
naturalist and ranger does not think that Owls and other raptors are
subject to West Nile. Any thoughts?
